EVENTS FOR THE LATIN COMMUNITY

 

Book presentation in Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia

 

A presentation of the new publication «Unus Pro Omnibus, ο Sylvain Beraud και οι Λατίνοι της Κύπρου» (Unus Pro Omnibus, Sylvain Beraud & the Latins of Cyprus) took place in Limassol on 17 September. The book was written by Dr Iosif Hadjikyriakos and published by the Press & Information Office.

 

The same presentation will be repeated in Larnaca on 15 October at 7.00 pm at the new premises of Στέγη Γραμμάτων και Τεχνών Λάρνακας (House of Arts & Literature - Larnaca) which is located at 18 Archbishop Kyprianou street.

 

In addition, in Nicosia the Press & Information Office is organising a presentation of the following two publications concerning the Latin Community on Friday 8 October at 7.30 pm as part of the NΙCOSIA BOOK FEST 2021 at Acropolis Park:

 

  • «Unus Pro Omnibus, ο Sylvain Beraud και οι Λατίνοι της Κύπρου» (Unus Pro Omnibus, Sylvain Beraud & the Latins of Cyprus)
  • «Αρμάνδο Τζιοζεφέν ο μουσικός, ο εικαστικός, ο αερομοντελιστής» (Armando Josephin, the musician, painter & model aircraft maker).

Invitation to the public lecture: ‘Children & electronic devices: Understanding and dealing with the new reality’ on 29 September

 

I would like to invite you to the above lecture which is being organised by the Youth Section of our association “Thriskeftiki Omada Latinon Kyprou” in collaboration with the “KEPAKY” Foundation (Social Services Provision Centre Andreas Sofocleous). The event is under the auspices of the Cyprus Police.

 

The lecture will be in GREEK and will take place on Wednesday 29 September at 6.00 pm at Auditorium 2 of the Tassos Papadopoulos Building of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEΠΑΚ) on Themidos street no 1, Limassol. The C.U.T. is a co-organiser of the event.

 

The presenters are the psychologist Dr Ioanna Kapetaniou as well as a Speaker from the Office for Combating Cybercrime of the Cyprus Police.

 

This is the same lecture which had been cancelled in March last year because of the lock down.

 

The lecture is open to the public (free) but it’s necessary to prebook if you wish to attend by tel 25849129

 

As per C.U.T protocols entry is allowed only to those who can present a certificate of completed vaccination or a certificate that they have already had Covid -19.

A list of participant names and contact numbers will be kept - use of face mask is obligatory.

Annual General Meeting of the association Thriskeftiki Omada Latinon Kyprou

 

All members of this association were invited to its AGM on 7 July at “Σπίτι των Λατίνων” (The Latin Centre) in Nicosia for a review of its first year of operation, the election of a new Board and brainstorming for further activities.

 

It was decided that due to lack of possibilities to organise much during the last year (due to the lockdown measures), the same Board should be re-elected for another year:

Sophie Tsouri: Vice President and Women’s Section Representative

Marinos Savva: Secretary                                                                               

Alesh Kyriakou: Cashier

Leda O’Mahony: Member and Youth Section Representative

Series of short documentary videos “The Latins of Larnaca”

 

Several videos in this series have already been uploaded and there are more videos in the series which are still being edited and which will be uploaded in due course.

TV Spots produced by CyBC

 

I participated in the preparation of several TV Sports concerning the Latin Community.

 

The project was undertaken at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and 5 thematic TV Spots about the Latins of Cyprus were created by CyBC. The 5 themes are: history, schools, historic monuments, places of worship and influence on Cyprus dialect and place names. The TV Spots will be broadcasted later in autumn on the CyBC TV channels.

 

Meeting with the new President of the House of Representatives

 

I had a very constructive meeting on 4 August with the new Present of the House of Representatives, Mrs Annita Demetriou, during which we discussed how to enhance the relationship between the House of Representatives and the Latin Community.

 

Participation in the project «Unifying Women’s Voices for Social and Political Change»

 

A group of women from the Latin Community participated in the above project which aims to develop and strengthen the voice of women in Cyprus.

 

I would like to thank all the participants for their time and for sharing their experiences and ideas at the dialogue meeting which took place on 4 September.

 

The organiser of the project is the Steering Committee of the Gender Advisory Team of Women working on the Project and the meeting was held in cooperation with the Women’s Section of our association Thriskeftiki Omada Latinon Kyprou.
