Dear Friends,

 

I am glad to continue informing you of our Community news:

 

 

Parliamentary Work/Meetings of the Representative:

  • On July 16th I visited the new Chief of Police in Limassol, Mr. Kypros Michaelides to present the Latin Community.
  • On October 9th I had a meeting with the new Presidential Commissioner for Human Affairs Mr. Photis Photiou to present to him the Latin Community.
  • The same day I met with our Vicar General to discuss common issues.
  • The Latin Catholics have visited again this year their cemeteries and priests have blessed the tombs. I had again obtained the permission for Latins to enter the Buffer Zone and visit the cemetery in Nicosia under the protection of the United Nations.
  • On November 7th I attended the special session of Parliament which was addressed by the Prime Minister of Greece Mr. Antonis Samaras.

 

Community Affairs:

  • St. Anthony’s Benevolent Society in Nicosia organized on the 13th of June (St. Anthony’s Day) a successful bazaar at the Catholic Church garden and raised 500 euros for its Funds to assist people in need.
  • On October 5th the Sisters of the Order of St. Joseph the Itinerant in Larnaca had organized a presentation of the 170 years of the presence of the Order in Larnaca, its impressive contribution to assist sick during the 1800s, in education and currently assisting people in need through its Association, St. Joseph Protector of Poor People. The Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Mr. Photis Photiou, The Mayor of Larnaca and approximately 150 guests were present. Our Community extends its thanks to Sister Tomas Faruggia for her fifty years of untiring work.
  • In Limassol St. Catherine’s Benevolent Fund organized successful “Cheese & Wine” party evening on October 10th to raise money for the poor.
  • Caritas Larnaca organized its “Walking with the Poor” march on the 12th of October, starting from St. Joseph’s Convert through Larnaca town up till Larnaca Medieval Castle.
  • Caritas in Limassol has organized a “Coffee Morning” on October 17th for its programme to raise money for the poor. It is also organizing a Christmas Bazaar and food drive.  
  • On Sunday 2nd December afternoon the Catholic Church of Paphos will make a presentation by children of the Birth of Christ.
  • In Limassol the St. Catherine’s Benevolent Fund is organizing its Christmas Bazaar on December 7th (morning) at the Church premises.
  • On December 7th (Sunday) St. Joseph’s of Nicosia is organizing its Christmas Bazaar.
  • On Sunday December 28th Father Andrew Archin of Limassol is organizing an afternoon party for the Latins.
  • Our Patriarch will visit Cyprus 3rd – 7th of December to bless the Hospice in Paphos. The day has not yet been confirmed. Please follow up with the Paphos Parish priests (Tel: 26931308).
